About Us
Our iconic leader, Kim Zmeskal-Burdette

Born in 1976, Kim Zmeskal started gymnastics at age 6 at a small, local gym out of convenience for her babysitter. What started as a fun weekly activity, eventually turned into a focused, ambitious quest as she grew older, developing skills and challenging herself. Also contributing to her development was the fact that the gym was purchased by two new US immigrants, Bela and Martha Karolyi. New to the country, but certainly not unknown to the sport of gymnastics, the coaches of Nadia Comaneci would train Kim and continue making gymnastics history. Kim took center stage in the sport of artistic womens gymnastics early on, winning the title of US National Champion three times, consecutively. Her dynamic style and crowd-pleasing energy, made her as much an entertainer as an incredible athlete. Her tumbling passes, her beam poses, and her floor music and choreography were so original and awe-inspiring that they remain iconic to this day.

Until 1991, the United States had yet to produce a gymnastics world champion, male or female. That year, in Indianapolis, 15-year old Kim Zmeskal made history by winning World All-Around title, as well as medaling on floor and receiving the silver team medal. This accomplishment established the United States as a gymnastics superpower and opened the door for our country's next stars.
In 1992, Kim became a member of the bronze-medal winning Olympic Team in Barcelona. At only 16-years old, Kim wasn't quite ready to give up her training, so she continued training for the 1996 Games, which would make her a 20-year old gymnast, a feat quite uncommon in the sport. After suffering a torn ACL, Kim decided to retire from training and during the interim of her next life's challenges, she toured with John Hancock Presents gymnastics tours, as well as competing in professional competitions. Her fanfare in the tours and her back-to-back wins in professional competitions like the Rock-N-Roll Gymnastics Show didn't help her disconnect from the sport, but rather reignited her gymnastics passions, however by this time, the Karolyi's had retired.
In 1997, she moved with now-husband (and ex-Karolyi's Gymnastics coach) Chris Burdette to Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy to be trained under Olympic Coach Mary Lee Tracy. For the next three years, Kim trained and competed, preparing for the 2000 Olympics, only to tear her Achilles tendon, followed by surgery and rehab, and then another tear. Kim's experiences were described afterwards: "It was all worth it. I've been on top of the world and I've been on crutches learning to walk. I've experienced success and heartache. I've learned how to stay humble in good times and motivated in desperate times. I'm ready to move on".
In 2001, Kim moved back home to Texas, aspiring to open a gymnastics gym and try her hand at coaching. She would have a book written about her, be accepted into the Gymnastics Hall of Fame, and become a highly requested motivational speaker, sharing her memories, her perseverance, and her ambitions with the rest of the world. She opened Texas Dreams Gymnastics, became a Brevet womens gymnastics judge, and has three children, sons Ryder and Koda and daughter Riven Belle.
The History of Texas Dreams Gymnastics
In 2001, Texas Dreams Gymnastics opened their doors, based upon the dream of a World Champion, and the business vision of her husband. Kim Zmeskal and Chris Burdette, along with two inspired civic leaders, Brian and Nancy Kennedy, plus other program directors like Master Cha (Tai Kwan Do) and Cathy Sullivan (Acting), opened EveryBody Fits, a 'youth program mall' which allowed families the flexibility of enrolling multiple children in diverse programs. These programs were all under one, 75,000 square foot roof. Nine years later, program growth and a suffering economy prompted the Kennedy's to sell the EveryBody Fits complex, and the multiple programs under the EBF umbrella branched out on thier own and established individual locations (all within 2 miles of their original home).
In March of 2010, Texas Dreams Gymnastics moved into a their current 36,000 sq/ft. custom designed facility, 11,000 more feet than the 25,000 sq/ft. gym space occupied in the EveryBody Fits complex. The site, 117 Wrangler Drive, in Coppell was the perfect location, providing great accessibility to both Coppell, Irving, and Grapevine residents. The building offers more space, more pits, and more equipment, creating an even better training environment for the next gymnastics champions.
Texas Dreams Gymnastics has become an industry standard in gymnastics and is one of the two most successful clubs in the state of Texas. We are known for the success of our district, state, regional, national and international champions. Our programs cover a wide spectrum, from beginner to Elite, recreational to competitive team, girls, boys, and toddler to adults. We are the current gym home to National Team members, World Championship team members, and have welcomed athletes from all parts of the country as they aspire to follow in the footsteps of Kim and her previous athletes. To date, 13 graduating seniors have accepted full gymnastics scholarships to universities across the country – Florida to Alaska and all points in-between. Dominating at the State, Regional, and National levels, having numerous athletes on the US National Team, and producing Elite National Champions, International All-Around winners, and World Team Members, Texas Dreams is as cutting edge and prominent in the sport as any club in the country.
